reception theory

1) what is the preferred reading of a media text?

the meaning the producers pick and choose how they want their audience to view the media text.

2) what is the oppositional reading of a media text?

Oppositional reading means to go against the meaning the producers are trying to create.

3) how does the harry brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

it portrays them as gang members and criminals.

4) why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of a trailer?

young people may reject this reading because it may not relate to them as not all young people/teenagers are criminals nor are they violent.

5)  Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

preferred:

the meaning the produces want us to have is that its a must have burger. they do this so that we can spend our money on it as it is anew burger which people may like which is odd for a world wide famous fast food chain like McDonald. Most people would try it because its a new burger and its trending. they also included a description of the burger at the bottom (with big adjectives) to give us more of a reason to try it

oppositional:

some people might feel like its a bad reason to try as it might not live up to their standards especially vegans/vegetarians as it may not be as attractive to them. Some people might even see this as unhealthy and not good for the body people will also agree its not good because of the description they left at the bottom.

negotiated:

it may not look up to the standard people have and may be to big of a burger for children who are quite young. also because most child can only eat a certain amount people may also see this as a really big meal especially people who are old not only will they see this as big they will see it as unhealthy especially when your getting older.
